China Uncovered

three-pagodas-dali--1998-yunnanlongAn Exhibition by Martin Walsh

31 Mar - 1st Nov

This photographic exhibition features 64 rare and unusual botanical, cultural and landscape images captured during Martin’s recent journey to the remote regions of Yunnan, Sichuan and Qinghai in China.

There will also be images of the rare and fascinating Rheum nobile, a rhubarb that protects its flower from the harsh weather by adapting its bracts to make a mini pagoda or greenhouse. Inside, the temperature remains a few degrees warmer - while still allowing insects access in to pollinate!

Martin Walsh is an international speaker, a renowned garden designer and a modern day plant hunter, with over eight Himalayan explorations under his belt. Martin has also recently exhibited at The Royal Horticultural Society Show in London.

Plant Hunters

Hunters History

The Plant Hunters were not just botanists, they were adventurers and explorers. They had to be tough to survive the conditions they faced in far-flung corners of the world. They survived shipwrecks, sieges and slavery and battled with pirates, escaped convicts and hostile natives.
