IAN McNEILL was born and bred and is still resident in East Lothian. He is a self taught artist, and has tried different mediums such as oils, acrylics, pencil sketching and pen and ink, the ink drawings he finds very enjoyable, however he settled on watercolour as his main medium, because of the excitement of capturing the moment. He started exhibiting his work back in the 70's when he entered two oil paintings in a Winston Churchill exhibition in London. Ian has also shown his work in Edinburgh, Peter Potters in Haddington, and in North Berwick as well as other exhibitions in and around East Lothian, Ian has also shown his ink drawings south of the border, in Oxfordshire. He is also a member of the North Berwick art club. Ian says his main reason for painting is for the sheer pleasure he gets from it, but also he lives in the hope that others get as much pleasure from it as he does. Returning to Pitlochry to exhibit my paintings or tutoring the Beginners Workshops is always like returning home. The theatre has a unique atmosphere and seems to inspire me to produce some of my best work.

"When staying in Pitlochry during the early part of the war, I chanced to see a stately house with a fairly large garden, quite close to the town. I at once realised that here my dream theatre might well be established in this fashionable resort right in the heart of Scotland"… John Stewart, Founder of Pitlochry Festival Theatre.
