Yvonne Vernon (Stewart)

YVONNE N. VERNON D.A. (STEWART) was born and raised in Ceres, Fife and attended Bell Baxter High School. She graduated from Edinburgh College of Art – Design & Crafts (Jewellery & Silversmithing) and later graduated from the Northern College, Aberdeen. She taught Art & Design in Secondary Schools in the Central & Tayside regions. Yvonne has also tutored drawing & painting at Adult Education classes in Pitlochry. Her jewellery, drawings & paintings have been exhibited at local art & craft exhibitions. Yvonne moved to the Pitlochry area with her husband Dave in 1977 and raised a family here. The local countryside has been a major influence on her art and she has taken a special interest in botanical composition and detail. Observing the Scottish landscape and its historical associations has inspired an interest in the carvings on Pictish stones and this is reflected in the exhibits on show. Yvonne uses mixed media techniques, a collage of Japanese paper is built up in layers and then the paints and graphite are used to create a three dimensional effect. In 2002 Yvonne was diagnosed with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (M.E.) and was forced to reassess her lifestyle. Her recent work has been produced in short spells of time, on better days as she comes to terms with this illness.

History

From 1951 to the 21st Century...

Discover our history "When staying in Pitlochry during the early part of the war, I chanced to see a stately house with a fairly large garden, quite close to the town. I at once realised that here my dream theatre might well be established in this fashionable resort right in the heart of Scotland"… John Stewart, Founder of Pitlochry Festival Theatre.
